AdBlue® pumps for refueling reach trucks
To supply AdBlue® to the engines of its straddle carriers, Noell Mobile Systems — a specialist in container handling—installs impeller pumps from ZUWA. Noell develops and manufactures cranes and straddle carriers for container terminals at ports around the world. The machines are equipped with diesel engines in which AdBlue®, a urea solution, is injected into the exhaust stream to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions in accordance with the EUROMOT IIIB (Off-Road) standard.
The engines of the reach trucks are located at a height of 12 to 15 meters, where they are also refueled with AdBlue®. The fluid must travel this distance to reach the engine from the AdBlue® tank located below. Noell—in search of a suitable pump for this application—chose the NIROSTAR 2000-A impeller pumps with a 24-volt connection from ZUWA.
Florian Niederreiter, project manager at ZUWA, comments: “We normally use diaphragm pumps for AdBlue®. However, these don’t provide enough flow at the required head, which is why we opted for the NIROSTAR pumps as a solution.”
ZUWA impeller pumps are dry self-priming, meaning they do not need to be filled before starting operation. The NIROSTAR 2000-A has a maximum flow rate of 30 liters per minute at a delivery pressure of up to 4 bar—which corresponds to a delivery head of 40 meters. The materials used in NIROSTAR pumps are designed for use with weakly alkaline urea solutions. The pump body is made of stainless steel, while the impeller and seals are made of durable rubber.
