Formula Student is an international design competition in which teams of students from around the world develop and build single-seater racing cars and pit them against each other. The aim is not only to build the fastest vehicle, but also to present an overall concept that combines technology, economy, and innovation.
Since 2023, a large part of the currently 25-member Aixtrem Racing Team at Aachen University of Applied Sciences has been dedicated to building the fully electric race car called FS25 in order to compete against other students at major events in Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and many other countries in and outside of Europe.
The vehicle is powered by an electric motor with a peak output of just under 110 hp (80 kW), fed by a powerful 600-volt high-voltage battery – a powerful and modern overall package. The overall concept also includes a specially designed and developed external EV charging cart, which can fully charge the FS25's high-voltage battery in just over an hour, with a maximum charging capacity of 6.5 kW.
The challenge: The charging system requires a compact, powerful, and easy-to-integrate pump that, in combination with a water cooler and a fan, ensures constant and reliable cooling of the high-voltage charger. This is where the Unistar 2000-A from ZUWA comes into its own, making it a key component for safe and efficient operation.
